LHR Layover Guide: What to Do at London Heathrow Airport

London, United Kingdom · EGLL

London Heathrow is the busiest airport in Europe by international traffic and the primary hub of British Airways, operating across four terminals (2, 3, 4 and 5).

It is exceptionally well connected to central London by rail, including the high-speed Heathrow Express and the Elizabeth line.

Transit & visa requirements

  • Most passengers connecting airside between international flights do not pass UK immigration — but some nationalities require a Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV).
  • If your itinerary requires changing terminals landside or collecting bags, you will pass through UK border control and need a visa if your nationality requires one.
