Best Places to Travel in November

Shoulder-season value, dry seasons, and autumn's last colour

November is one of travel's great underrated months. It sits in the quiet window before the December holidays, so prices and crowds are low almost everywhere — and at the same time several of the world's best regions are sliding into their finest weather, as Asia's dry season begins and Japan's autumn peaks.

It is a particularly good month for long-haul trips: you get dry-season conditions in Southeast Asia and India without the December high-season prices. Here are the best places to travel in November.

Thailand & Southeast Asia — Dry Season Begins

November marks the start of the cool, dry season across much of Southeast Asia. The monsoon rains clear for sunny days and comfortable temperatures, making it one of the best months for Thailand's islands and temples, Cambodia's Angkor and Vietnam. Crucially, prices have not yet hit the December peak, so it is excellent value.

It is high season for good reason, but arriving in November rather than December means lower fares and quieter sights.

Northern Vietnam — Crisp & Golden

The north of Vietnam is dry and cool in November, with clear skies over Ha Long Bay and the rice terraces around Sapa turning golden after the harvest. It is comfortable for trekking and sightseeing, without the haze and rain of other months.

Japan — Peak Autumn Foliage

Late November is prime time for Japan's spectacular autumn colours, which blaze across temples, gardens and mountainsides — Kyoto in particular is unforgettable, with many gardens illuminated after dark. The weather is crisp and dry, ideal for both cities and countryside.

It is a popular time, so book Kyoto accommodation ahead and start sightseeing early to beat the crowds at the famous temples.

India — The Cool, Comfortable Season

November ushers in India's most comfortable travel season. After the monsoon, the air is clearer and temperatures drop to pleasant levels, ideal for the Golden Triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, Rajasthan's forts and palaces, and Kerala's backwaters. It is the start of India's peak season for good reason.

The Caribbean — Post-Hurricane Calm

As the Atlantic hurricane season winds down through November, the Caribbean returns to dry, sunny weather. Prices are often lower than the December-to-April high season, making November a smart-value window for reliable winter sun before the holiday surge.

Where to Find the Best Value

November is one of the cheapest months for long-haul travel. Dry-season destinations in Asia and the Caribbean are open and pleasant but still priced below the December peak, and Europe is firmly in its quiet, low-cost off-season. Booking before the holiday fares spike in December is the key to the savings.

Frequently Asked Questions

November is excellent for Southeast Asia and India as their cool, dry seasons begin, for Japan's peak autumn foliage, and for the Caribbean as hurricane season ends. It is a strong shoulder-season month with good weather and value before the December holidays.
